Non-fiction books

You’ve finished your information-rich book and it’s been a long journey. Perhaps you have some nagging doubts:

  • Have I been repetitive?
  • Do my words flow well?
  • Will it draw my readers in and keep them reading to the end?
  • Will they get bored or keep thinking “You’ve already said that!”?
  • Will it appeal to my readers; will they identify with me, and find my book helpful?
  • Does it make sense and does the structure follow a logical order? Do the chapters link together well?

You’ve taken advice from family and friends, maybe from beta readers, but want to be sure they’ve missed nothing that will matter to your target audience. You need the objective help of someone familiar with the process to give your book the professional polish it deserves.

Not everyone reads a book from front to back or all at once. Keeping section titles consistent and avoiding excessive jargon are among the ways I can help you make your book the best it can be. Your book is your “baby” and you might need the odd gentle nudge to notice something is missing as you've been working at it for so long. I will consider all of the above questions and more, as well as checking spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Memoirs

You’ve written a memoir about an important time or event in your life. It’s been your baby for so long that you’re a bit scared to share it with the world. It’s personal but you also want other people to know your story, how you did it and what inspired you and changed you. I can help you ensure your words have the impact you want with no omissions of vital information or unnecessary repetition. Memoirs do sometimes compress time, such as glossing over certain events and characters to make your story more readable. Did you get it right? Does it make sense or have you left something important out? Do your characters seem believable and real? I can help with all of this as well as checking its grammar, spelling and punctuation and ensuring it follows a consistent style and flows well. Let me be your editing friend as you complete this process of finalising your book for publishing.

Business content

You’ve written something for your business but don’t feel confident enough to share it with colleagues or use it with your clients. Maybe you’re dyslexic and are painfully aware that you don’t always use the right words or get your grammar quite right. Perhaps English is your second or third language. Or it’s a long time since you left formal education and you feel a bit “rusty”. I can give you ease of mind by checking your words for you and ensuring they say what you want them to say and give a good impression of you and your products/services. Business reports, press releases, courses, social media posts and Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD) assessment reports – these are just a few of the texts I regularly work on to ensure they are error free, flow and sound good. Some of my clients are in the EU and some in the UK. Just let me know your requirements and I'll be there to do what is needed.
